"Elena Doamna" Food Industry College was founded in 1966 and trains students in the food industry domain, catering, tourism, natural resources and environment protection. At the moment, our school has upper secondary education, high school daily classes and professional classes.
The total of the students is 700, most of them specializing in food industry (fields - bakery, pastry, dairy products and meat, fruits and vegetables, but also brewery). This institution is provided with laboratories like: Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, and IT and also has workshops for practice sessions in: milk and meat processing, bakery, brewery and pastry, and gastronomy workshops. About 60 teachers are involved in the development of the students' practical abilities and knowledge. The school has also a modern library, a multimedia room, a festivity hall, a gym and a cafeteria where the students from our hostel have their meals every day. The region we live in is a very beautiful area because the city is placed near the Danube, but disadvantaged because of its high level of unemployment and air-water pollution. In the same time, it is a highly industrialized area and pollution has reached a worrying level. This led to a high number of people with respiratory illnesses.
Many of our students come from rural areas. The school tries to get our students acquainted with the European values, to help them to better integrate professionally and socially and be active citizens of the EU, to appreciate more the importance of education and to help them enter the labor market with the required professional training.
The economic situation of the area is also responsible for the high number of students that have parents working abroad. As a result to this, the students are left alone, the school becoming one of the few sources for education, and the social support and guiding for their future career and their development as responsible beings that are aware of the importance of the environment's resources they have and the way they have to use them, preventing their disappearance or misuse.
Our aim is to make school a more welcoming place for children, but also for the teachers. Our school’s aim is to offer quality education to our students that graduate, according to the changes of our society, in order to have professional competences at European level that would allow them to choose the right path in life, to be responsible citizens and to be able to decide on their career.
Our institution has the experience of writing and participating in European projects from 1998 up to present and was awarded the title of European school five times in: 2007 - 2010, 2010 - 2013, 2013 - 2016, 2017 -2022 and 2023 - 2026.
Our school aims to provide the students a safe environment in which to be able to study at their full capacity and not be put off by hostile living conditions and to prepare them for a labor market which changes continually. In this regard our school aims to adapt to the new social changes, by getting involved in a lot of projects and programs both for students and teachers, thus, providing equal education opportunities.
European cooperation activities led to the promotion of a European dimension in the education of students through their participation in the activities that were developed in the projects by exchanging information between students from partner countries, making them aware of belonging to a unique Europe.
Furthermore, teachers have been involved in exchanges of information and good practices fact that demonstrates their willingness to learn new things and make the learning process a more attractive and accessible one for all kinds of students.
